2)Hearing equipment
  • Selection and regulation of hearing prostheses in regards to audiogram (record of the audiometer).
  • Preparation of auricular nozzle beginning with an ear impression.
  • Maintenance and reparation of auditory protheses.

3) Mobile Clinic

  • Testing for hearing impairment and ear disorders within the community.
  • Treatment and care at the audiological clinic.

LOCALITIES :

Audiology activities are especially based in the Analamanga Region (Antananarivo and surrounding area), and in the Region of Vakinankaratra (Antsirabe and surrounding area). However, these activities may also occur at other SALFA health centers in different regions. For example, we have visited Tamatave, Morondava, Vangaindrano, Manambaro, Fandriana, Sambava, Ambohimandroso, Fianarantsoa. We have also visited larger schools for the hearing impaired in Madagascar to provide technical assistance regarding the usage of auditory equipment for children.

PERSONNEL :
11 employees work full-time with this Project :

  • 3 nurses (Mrs. Lucette, Mrs. Nivo, Mrs. Nirina)
  • 1 audiogram assistant (Mrs. Lalasoa)
  • 2 audio-prosthesis technicians ( Mr Doudou, Mr Johnny)
  • 1 prosthesis assistant ( Mr Njato)
  • 1 accountant (Ms Tantely)
  • 1 cashier ( Mr Herman)

2 people from abroad (Dr. Piet van Hasselt and his wife, Mieke) visit Madagascar twice a year to assist us with surgical procedures.

One ENT Malagasy physician is currently receiving training as an ear surgeon in Nairobi ( Dr Liva).

FUTURE PLANS:

With the coopération of CBM, a three-year plan is in progress (2007 – 2009), with the following objectives:
