SALFA is a health department under the umbrella of the Malagasy Lutheran Church (MLC). Oral hygiene is the first priority for this program within the Malagasy Lutheran Church Health Department (SALFA). The National Coordination of the Oral Hygiene Program (CNPSO) has two missions:
  • Evangelization, which is of primary importance within the Luteran Church.

Global Objective:
To reduce by 60% the morbidity and mortality rate of malaria in children less than five years of age and pregnant women in the project zone, over a period of five years
CONTEXT :
Reasons for the campaign: one child in a developing country dies every 30 seconds from malaria. Malaria is the primary cause of morbidity and mortality in Madagascar. Political impact: Malaria is a factor of poverty in endemic zones. >>>

    Treatment and care of otological infections (otitis externa, otitis media)
    Patient preparation through all stages of ear surgery (ventilator position, tympanoplasty, etc...)

VISION and MISSION
SALFA is one department within the Malagasy Lutheran Church (MLC). The vision of the MLC in regards to HIV/AIDS is that:
  • each structure of the MLC, including all church leaders, will disseminate information concerning HIV and AIDS;
  • the number of newly diagnosed people infected by HIV will cease to increase;the respect of their rights without discrimination, stigma, or denial; >>>
SALFA NUTRITION PROJECT :
The nature and the root causes of the malnutrition are the quasi-continuous of the drought in the Southern and the frequent cyclones with too much rain in the East. These problems lead the local people to the famine, the inadequate food availability, which in turn, lead to an unbalanced diet and, consequently, the high rate of morbidity due to the diseases related to the malnutrition… A viscious cycle. Poor health facilities, inadequate basic sanitation, drinking water unprotected, the increasing of the market price of food, the low-income households.>>>

ACTIVITY REPORT FOR SEFAM (LUTHERAN NURSING SCHOOL) IN 2006

Classes resumed for the second year students on 23 January 2006, with these students, along with their mentors, visiting different health sites in the Antsirabe area where they would be doing their practical experience.

In August of 2006, the SEFAM director attended a worldwide conference in Uganda, which was sponsored by ESCACON. >>>

SALFA TB PROJECT

TB is the fourth cause of death in Madagascar. It mainly affects the poorest of the poor.

TB is a public health problem in Madagascar. It is the second major health problem after malaria. >>>

LEPROSY PROJECT

Over the past 100 years, the Malagasy Lutheran Church has made a commitment toward the anti-leprosy campaign in two localities: Mangarano Antsirabe II and Bekoaka Morondava.. Recently, SALFA has installed a National Leprosy Project, entitled “Leprosy Elimination Program.” >>>

SALFA LABORATORY

It is an analysis laboratory that the Department of Health of the Malagasy Lutheran Church (SALFA) opened on October 2, 2006.

Depsite the inadequate and basic equipment that exist it could start to work.

It takes care of the basic analysis such as Biochemistry, Serology, Parasitology, Hematology and Urinalysis.

To offer to the doctors and to the patients the possibility of having access to results of quality at accessible prices to be able to serve the greatest number. > > >
